Experience Description
On April 12, 2023, I gave birth to my son. I pushed for a total of eight minutes and a healthy baby was put on my chest. Shortly afterward, I heard my OBGYN say, 'Oh no, it happened again!' She was referring to was my placenta was being retained because my placenta grew into my uterine wall.
This also had happened with the birth of my other daughter two years prior. In that instance, my doctor didn't have any issues getting the placenta out. This time, she did. The room was extremely chaotic because I requested to not be put on fentanyl, the pain drug that was given to me in 2021 that made me very sick. So, we had to wait for the anesthesiologist to administer c-section grade pain killers. When he arrived, it was a slow process to add this medicine to the IV. My OBGYN was growing frustrated and was arguing with him about how she needed to start working to remove my placenta. Once the pain medicine was given to me, they started pushing on my abdomen hoping that action would help push things out. My son was taken away because it was dangerous for him to be on my chest and breastfeed. I remember being very upset about this.
Then I blacked out. I was suddenly hovering over my body looking down at the room. I remember this because there was no way I would've been able to see my baby in the bassinet from where I was lying on my hospital bed. But, I was able to see him clearly in the bassinet. I felt myself being forced back into my body. I must have arrived back with a jolt because I threw up on myself. I had lost a lot of blood and it was being discussed if I should have a blood transfusion. After hours of trying to get all of the placenta out, my doctor said she was finished.
Three weeks later, it was discovered that I still had a third of my placenta left inside of me. I needed a DNC procedure to remove the rest of it. Shortly after, I was diagnosed with PTSD and PPD and underwent EMDR to help. The imagery of the birth doesn't loop in my brain anymore. Even when I think of it, the images have faded. Yet, the only thing that I vividly remember is hovering over my body and looking around the room.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience?
I gained the ability to talk to spirits in the after world. I knew my grandmother was trying to communicate with me in December 2023. I woke up to inexplicable flashing lights and then had a dream about her. Later, I awoke to the sound of a jewelry box, even though no one was playing with one, in the middle of the night. Finally, I woke up to see a dark shadow and felt a hovering presence over my body; afterward, I had another dream about my grandmother. Although she never appeared directly in my dreams, we were always talking about her or being in her house. I consulted a medium, who confirmed that my grandmother was trying to communicate with me. She said that my grandmother wanted to tell me she was proud of me for surviving what I went through and that there was a reason for the events. The medium also mentioned that I had the ability to connect with spirits, though she didn't provide further details. Then, in January 2025, I felt compelled to see a medium known for training people who believed they had the power to connect with spirits. She gave me tools for connecting with spirits, and that evening, spirits began appearing to me. I was able to sense who they were and ask yes-or-no questions to understand what they wanted. I felt guided to ask certain questions. It felt as if I were zoning out, looking into the distance, and watching answers appear in my mind. I have read that deeply traumatic events can cause people to open up in this way, and I believe that is why I was meant to go through the trauma. Through talking with spirits, I believe I can confidently say that there is an afterlife and that there are guides who help us transition through it. We learn from our mistakes and are able to progress in a better direction in our next life.
I have always had a phobia of blood. I remember, when I was five, watching a movie in which a man was attacked by a woman in an insane asylum. Despite having very detailed images in my mind of that movie, no one else has been able to identify it. Recently, while lying in bed, I saw myself as a nurse in a 1950s hospital, discovering a man whose head was bleeding and watching my patient run away. I think that when I was five, I experienced past-life imagery that I later confused with a movie. This experience was the first step toward unlocking the ability in my brain to connect with spirits.
