Experience Description

As I lay down for the day after working the night shift, my heart began to race (tachycardia). It seemed as if I had two hearts, there was a peculiar beat. Never has my heart raced this fast, this much, or for the length of time that it did. It felt as if my heart just threw itself out. Suddenly and simultaneously, my body went slack. However, I had the sensation that I was lifting up while my body was slouching down. I could sense the weight of my body as it pressed into the bed, but at the same time, I was aware that I had left my body. My eyes closed on their own, and darkness came. It was very dark. I remember thinking, 'Am I dying?' Before I could ponder what was happening, something gently pushed me back down into my body, and I was aware of the dead weight of it and that my heart was rapidly slowing down. I paused for a moment without opening my eyes, not believing what had just happened. As I opened my eyes and rolled over onto my back, I had the sensation that death had come but was denied. I don’t know how I knew this, I just did.
