Experience Description

My wife, soulmate, best friend, and everything to me, died in February 2025 in a tragic car accident just five minutes from home. I was out of town that day and woke up to a news article about her accident. The last time I spoke with her was 20 minutes before it happened, while I was out drinking with a friend at a bar. I completely lost myself that day. Fifteen years together, all gone in the blink of an eye. I spent two weeks by her side in the ICU, where she laid on the bed with a severe brain injury. After countless surgeries, authorizing the withdrawal of life support, and watching her take her last breaths, she was gone. I’m not sure what to call the experience, but one night I bought opioid medication from someone I knew and took several pills with copious amounts of alcohol. That night, I had several episodes where my breathing stopped (respiratory depression), and I could feel myself drifting off somewhere. Suddenly, I felt a strange sensation of lifting out of my body and hovering above myself in my bedroom. Everything looked exactly the same, despite my eyes being closed and being unconscious. I floated through my bedroom door and flew around my living room, which was an amazing feeling. I felt weightless, unbound by my physical body, and completely sober. I floated back into my bedroom, sank into my mattress, and felt myself merge with it. It was as if my essence blended with the atoms of the material, and we were just connected. I sensed a presence in the room behind me and turned my vision toward the side of the bed. A figure began to appear, starting with the feet, then the calves, then the thighs. A sense of fear came over me. When the head appeared, it looked terrifying, like a demon or something from a horror movie. I quickly prayed to Jesus, saying, "Please help me." Suddenly, the face changed, filled with light, and it was Jesus! He looked different from how I’d seen him in church or on TV. His hair was shorter and curly; and he had an incredible smile. He wore a robe and seemed surrounded by an aura of light. He winked at me, and a little butterfly flew off his shoulder toward me. My sweet, deceased wife was riding on the butterfly’s wing, smiling at me with the happiest expression I’d ever seen. The moment I saw her face, I woke up gasping for air. I’ll never know how close I was to dying since I was alone at home. But the combination of opioids, sleep apnea, and alcohol was dangerous. Still, I’m grateful for that experience because it gives me hope that my beautiful wife is with Jesus, waiting to take me on the ride of my life when my time comes.
