Experience Description
One morning I was driving home from work at 5:45 AM on a bright Sunday summer morning.
Suddenly, I found myself about 200 feet above my car. I saw the road with the long, sharp bend ahead. There were three cars traveling toward me; one was red, one was white, and another car was black. As I watched, the cars were approaching the bend. The third car pulled out to overtake the two cars in front. This meant that at the curve, I would meet this car head-on at a combined speed of over 100 miles per hour.
In an instant, I was back in my car. I slowed down as I neared the bend. Then I saw the red car begin to appear. I hit the brakes and stopped. A moment later, the overtaking black car sped straight toward me. Luckily, it had just enough space to pull ahead and then back onto the correct side of the road with seconds to spare. The faces of the young driver and passenger are still imprinted in my memory.
The overview I had seemed to last about three or four seconds.
I have always accepted the metaphysical, spiritual, and consciousness due to my upbringing.
This spontaneous out-of-body experience (OBE) saved my life or at least prevented severe injury. It was a warning to me that I was heading toward potential disaster. During those few seconds, I had no sense of being in the car. I was seemingly processing multiple realities at once.
It was fascinating to witness the cars and the impending danger while simultaneously existing in the physical realm. This breaks down the boundaries we often associate with our consciousness. Instead of being limited to one perspective, I was able to expand my awareness and see the situation from an elevated vantage point. What prompted the OBE? I have to assume a higher aspect of myself or another consciousness was looking out for me.
I had another spontaneous OBE in my car a few years later, which saved me from an accident in dense fog.
